Diver rescued off Kaena Point
A Coast Guard helicopter found a missing diver 2 miles off Kaena Point Friday night.
The diver’s friend contacted the fire department when he didn’t see him surface.
The fire department called the Coast Guard for help at about 6:30 p.m. and guided the Coast Guard’s helicopter rescue crew to a site where the department had spotted a green laser.
The Coast Guard lowered a diver into the ocean and lifted the distressed diver to its helicopter. The diver was brought to shore and taken to a decompression chamber at the Kuakini Health System, the Coast Guard said.
The diver had been in the water for about four hours. The Coast Guard said he had filled his dry suit with the remaining air left in his dive tank to stay afloat.
