Coast Guard searching for owner of kayak found off Maui

The Coast Guard is seeking the public's help in identifying the owner of a kayak found adrift approximately one mile off Maui, Tuesday.

The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of a kayak found adrift approximately one mile south of La Perouse Bay, Maui, Tuesday.

The two-person, Otter kayak is yellow with Old Town markings.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Command Center received notification of the kayak from the passenger vessel Maui Magic about 11 a.m. 

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Maui and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Barbers Point are searching the area for a possible kayaker in distress.

Anyone able to identify the kayak is asked to contact the Sector Honolulu Command Center at 842-2600.
