Kahuku’s Carvalho recovering from injury
Kahuku coach Reggie Torres confirmed that junior wide receiver Kuuliko Carvalho is recovering after suffering a head injury during the OIA Red third-place game against Campbell on Saturday.
Carvalho suffered a concussion and lost four teeth and has some nerve damage after taking a hit while trying to catch a pass. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
"We tried to refocus. The kids needed to settle down. We said a prayer and we tried to refocus on football," Torres said after the game. "It’s tough. It’s emotional. We had kids crying on the sideline and they wouldn’t stop crying."
Carvalho showed improvement on Sunday, receiving a number of visitors, including the Campbell player who made the hit, Jerney Tago-Su‘e. Carvalho was expected to stay in the hospital for at least one more day.
"He should be able to overcome it," Torres texted on Sunday. "It puts things in perspective."
