CONSULAR CORPS OF HAWAII CELEBRATES GLOBAL CUISINE: Kusuma Cooray, honorary consul of Sri Lanka, was the chairwoman, and Niklaus Schweizer, honorary consul emeritus of Switzerland, was the emcee at the Consular Corps of Hawaii International Evening Nov. 1 at Kapiolani Community College. The diplomats and their guests enjoyed dishes representing the cuisine of 19 countries prepared by students in the KCC Culinary Arts Program.

MANDARIN BALL HOLDS COURT AT WAIKIKI BEACH MARRIOTT: The cultural highlight of the evening was the “Mandarin Jacket” contest that celebrated the traditional Chinese apparel. A panel of three judges voted Gigi Ko, left, the winner in the women’s contemporary category, and Rena Young Ochse, winner in women’s traditional. Dr. Joseph W.C. Young took top honors in the male division.
