1. Schroeder to Gant
» Situation: Wyoming 13, Hawaii 7, 1:10 remaining, first quarter, Hawaii ball, first-and-10 at Wyoming 34
» The Play: QB Sean Schroeder completes the first of four touchdown passes to WR Chris Gant.
» Impact: Schroeder passed for 499 yards, most in a game in the Mountain West Conference this season. Gant finished with eight catches for 174 yards.
» Schroeder: "Around the time it was 14-13, I had a feeling it was going to be a shootout. So you want to get a score every time you have the ball. That’s what you’re always thinking as an offense."
2. Smith to Herron
» Situation: Hawaii 14, Wyoming 13, 15:00 remaining, second quarter, Wyoming ball, second-and-9 at Hawaii 47
» The Play: QB Brett Smith retakes the lead with a 47-yard touchdown pass to Robert Herron, the first of four scoring connections for them.
» Impact: Smith passes for 498 yards and seven touchdowns, and rushes for 142 yards and another score. His 640 yards of total offense and the eight TDs responsible for are Mountain West records.
» Gant: "Is that Manziel? … He played an outstanding game. He’s a great quarterback."
3. Harding
» Situation: Hawaii 35, Wyoming 35, 14:20 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball, fourth-and-17 at own 18
» The Play: LB Benny Fonua knocks a Wyoming player into a kick by P Scott Harding. Hawaii’s Trayvon Henderson recovers the loose ball at the Hawaii 47.
» Impact: Three plays later Schroeder passes to Gant for a 29-yard TD and a 42-35 lead. It is the second time in this game and third in two games that UH recovers an opponent fumble on one of Harding’s rugby-style punts.
» Fonua: "I tried to throw him down and get him to hit the ball."
4. Going for it
» Situation: Hawaii 56, Wyoming 56, overtime, Hawaii ball, fourth-and-1 at Wyoming 4
» The Play: Hawaii coach Norm Chow decides not to try for a field goal. RB Joey Iosefa carries for the sixth straight time in overtime but is stopped by LB Devyn Harris for a loss.
» Impact: For the second overtime game in a row Hawaii fails to score after regulation. Wyoming takes over.
» Chow: "The way that Wyoming was obviously scoring … we wanted to win the ballgame. … I have no qualms about going for it on fourth down."
5. Kicked in the gut
» Situation: Wyoming 56, Hawaii 56, overtime, Hawaii ball, fourth-and-4 at Hawaii 19
» The Play: K Stuart Williams makes a field goal from 36 yards out.
» Impact: Wyoming wins, sending Hawaii to its 11th loss against no wins.
» Williams: "It’s unbelievable. It was my first (game-winning) kick."
