Russia sweeps Team USA volleyball team
Team USA let four set points get away in the first set and was swept by Russia on Sunday, the final day of the FIVB Grand Champions Cup at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Japan.
The scores were 29-27, 25-22, 25-19. The U.S. men’s national volleyball team finished fifth with a 2-3 record. Brazil won the championship, with Russia second and Italy third.
Hawaii’s Erik Shoji (libero) and Micah Christenson (setter) started for the U.S. the entire tournament. Shoji had nine digs in the final and Christenson 24 assists as the U.S. hit .434. Shoji’s brother Kawika was also on the team, along with Kauai’s Futi Tavana.
