7 people displaced by house fire in Mililani
A fire heavily damaged a home in Mililani Saturday, forcing five adults and two children to find shelter elsewhere.
The fire, which took 10 minutes to control after the initial call at 12:30 p.m., burned the bathroom, living room and part of a bedroom, Honolulu Fire spokesman Capt. James Todd said. Fire officials were still investigating the cause and the estimated damage, he said.
The Red Cross said its volunteers will meet with the affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met.
Cause of visitor’s death still pending
The medical examiner’s office deferred determining the cause of death of a 52-year-old visitor from Japan whose body was found about 200 yards off Kahala Beach earlier this month, pending further tests.
The victim was identified as Hiromi Ueno of Sakato, Japan.
A friend of the victim called emergency officials about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 11, saying the woman had gone for a swim overnight but didn’t return. The woman was found about two hours later in shallow waters 150 to 200 yards offshore.
