FULLERTON, Calif. » After being picked unanimously to win the Big West Conference before the women’s volleyball season began, Hawaii ended it with a piece of the conference title.
The Rainbow Wahine, ranked 12th nationally, extended their winning streak to eight matches by sweeping Cal State Fullerton 25-19, 25-18, 27-25 Saturday night at Titan Gym.
The victory allowed UH (24-4, 13-3) to share its 19th consecutive conference championship with UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge, which also won their regular-season finales Saturday night.
Now the Wahine must wait to see whether they will play host to the first and second regional rounds, which will start Thursday. Hawaii’s 11th-rated RPI will decline after playing the Big West’s two weakest teams this weekend.
Sixteen teams are chosen as regional hosts, though not always the top 16 in RPI.
