Many of the world’s top surfers will be on hand tonight for the Surfer Poll video awards at Turtle Bay Resort.
Categories include best barrel, breakthrough performer, best documentary and worst wipeout. Movie of the year nominees include "Done," directed by Blake Kueny; "Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau" by Sam George; "Slow Dance" by Dane Reynolds; "Tropically Yours" by David Malcolm; and "Uncharted Waters" by Craig Griffin.
The top 10 male and top 5 female surfers, chosen by readers of Surfer magazine, also will be announced.
This year’s event will be the 43rd annual awards ceremony, fashioned as a "celebration of surfing as popular culture." The invitation-only affair begins at 7 p.m. and will be live-streamed at SURFERpoll.com. Follow along via Twitter as Honolulu Star-Advertiser TGIF Editor and "Freestyle" blogger Elizabeth Kieszkowski (@StarTGIF) reports from the Surfer Poll video awards.
