A 63-year-old Kapaa woman was injured Monday afternoon when she was struck by an out-of-control vehicle while sitting outside of a Longs Drugs store.

According to police, a 23-year-old employee of the store was attempting to park the vehicle when she hit the curb  and mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. The vehicle jumped the curb, hit two wooden support beams then struck a wooden bench on which the victim was sitting. The victim was pinned between the vehicle and the wall until the driver reversed the car.

The victim was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was also taken to the hospital for toxicology testing.

No other injuries were reported.
