Anuenue drops out of OIA girls basketball
The revised OIA girls basketball schedule doesn’t have Anuenue on it.
Na Koa were removed because there wasn’t enough of a turnout in preseason.
"Only three girls turned out for basketball," boys assistant coach Bo Kekahuna said on Monday. "They didn’t have any games or practices."
Anuenue was scheduled to play Kahuku last Wednesday, but the game was canceled. With Anuenue off the slate, East teams will have 10 games instead of 11 in the regular season.
They will split off into the Division I and II playoffs after that. The White Conference, which had included Anuenue, is comprised of Kalani, Farrington, Kalaheo, Castle, Pearl City, Campbell, Waipahu and Waialua.
Kailua is looking for a new football coach
Kailua High School has opened up its head football coaching position, and at least one former coach might apply before the Dec. 18 deadline.
"I’ve had many calls asking whether I would come back," said former head coach Darren Johnson, who has been an assistant football coach and boys basketball head coach at Kahuku for several years.
Johnson says he’s comfortable at his alma mater but is curious about the possibilities. He has the blessing of Kahuku football coach Reggie Torres.
"Reggie is very supportive, but I don’t know what I want to do yet. I’m enjoying what I do at Kahuku. I want to be able to fly out and see my son (New Mexico State defensive back Kawehena Johnson) play, and he’s been playing a lot," Johnson said.
Gary Rosolowich was the Surfriders’ head coach for 10 seasons. Kailua reached the OIA quarterfinal round four times under his watch, switching from a power-based ground attack to a four-wide, shotgun offense.
To apply for the position, send a resume to Kailua High School Athletic Department, 451 Ulumanu Drive, Kailua, Hawaii 96734.
