Isaiah times two equalled a 64-58 win for Farrington over Kamehameha on Wednesday.

The Governors improved to 4-1 overall as they opened the ILH-OIA Challenge at Moanalua High School gym.

Isaiah Visoria scored 14 points, including 10 in the second half, and Isaiah Smith hit three treys in a row to vault the Governors into the lead. Farrington’s versatile 6-2 senior Jacob McEnroe had 11 points and four assists, and Van Hugo had 10 points and two steals.

Smith finished with 12 points, all in the second half.

"Our coaches said to look for my shot and be more aggressive," the senior guard said. "Then we started winning."

Smith’s hot shooting came in the nick of time. Farrington trailed through the second quarter and was down at halftime 26-23. The Warriors stretched the lead to 38-31 after five consecutive points by Jaycob Smith.

The Govs used fullcourt pressure to trap the Warriors, and Smith hit a midrange jumper to bring his team within 40-39. Then he swished a 22-foot trey from the left wing at the buzzer to give Farrington a 42-40 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Smith then opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back threes as the Govs opened a 48-42 lead.

"Smith’s treys changed the complexion of the game," new Kamehameha coach Greg Tacon said.

Farrington opened the lead to 56-47, but Kamehameha guard Noa Kinimaka hit two treys and sparked a 9-4 run. After Fatu Sua-Godinet’s putback Kamehameha was within 60-56 with 1:35 to go.

Free throws by Manly Williams, McEnroe, Smith and Visoria sealed the win for Farrington.

Jacob Smith led Kamehameha with 18 points. Alaka’i Freitas hustled for a team-high six rebounds.

Visoria, a 5-foot-10 guard, transferred from Roosevelt in the offseason. His speed and ability to attack the basket in transition has opened up more possibilities for the Govs. Coach Allan Silva’s squad is pressing and pushing the ball more than they have in the past two years.

"It was great coming back after being down," said Visoria, who also had five steals.

Tacon, the former Moanalua coach who is now in his first season with the Warriors, was back on familiar ground at Na Menehune’s gym.

"It’s always disappointing to lose a game, but we’ll stay together as a group and get back on track," he said.

The annual tournament was one of the traditions that began at Moanalua under his watch.

"It was great to see everyone and hug them," Tacon said. "Hopefully, they keep this going forever and we get to participate in it."

The three-day tourney resumes today and concludes on Friday. In today’s games, Maryknoll and Kalani play at 4 p.m., followed by Punahou-Moanalua (5:30 p.m.), Kamehameha-Kahuku (7 p.m.) and Saint Louis-Farrington (8:30 p.m.).
