Honolulu police released three sketches they believe are of the same man, a suspected serial rapist.

Honolulu police arrested a suspect in a series of rapes in  the Kaheka and Liliha area after matching DNA evidence collected in one of the cases.

Police arrested a 30-year-old man at his home at a Liliha area apartment complex at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha said the arrest came after police conducted an extensive surveillance operation in the Kaheka area involving more than 60 officers and more than 1,000 hours of work.

Criminal Investigation Division Maj. Richard Robinson said the man matched the description of the suspect and officers conducting surveillance questioned him. Robison said his answers raised more suspicions and officers recovered DNA from the suspect, which matched DNA evidence from a Dec. 1 rape case.

Officers arrested the man on suspicion of rape, burglary and kidnapping.

Detectives are continuing the investigation to try to connect him to at least two other rape cases.

The suspect has not yet been charged.

Police held a news conference last week to release the latest sketch of the suspect, whom they believe was also involved in two other cases.

In the Dec. 1 case, a man allegedly forced his way into a woman’s Cedar Street apartment at 11:30 a.m. and sexually assaulted her.

A June 14 CrimeStoppers bulletin said that at about 4 a.m. June 13, a man allegedly entered through the sliding door of an Aala Street apartment while the resident was asleep and sexually assaulted her.

At about 10:25 a.m. May 28, a man approached a woman from behind as she tried to enter her Ahana Street apartment, according to CrimeStoppers. He allegedly struck her, causing her to fall to the ground, then sexually assaulted her and fled in an unknown direction.
