Man charged with rape and kidnapping

Police have charged a 30-year-old Kalihi man suspected of a series of rapes dating back to May.

Asofitu Fio was arrested Friday in connection with the sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman Dec. 1.

Fio is also being investigated as a possible suspect in the sexual assaults of a 22-year-old woman May 28 and a 25-year-old woman June 13.

Fio was charged Sunday with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of third-degree sexual assault, first-degree burglary and kidnapping.

He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Fio’s criminal record includes only one prior conviction — for disorderly conduct, a petty misdemeanor — related to a Nov. 5, 2011, incident. He was convicted on April 9, 2012, and fined $150.

Woman sexually assaulted, struck on head

Police arrested a 36-year-old McCully man early Sunday morning after he allegedly sexually assaulted and struck a 24-year-old woman Saturday night at his home on Kala­kaua Avenue, police said.

The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday when the man sexually assaulted the woman and also struck her on the head with a dangerous instrument, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree sex assault and second-degree assault at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Father arrested in choking of daughter

A 46-year-old man allegedly choked his 21-year-old daughter Saturday night, police said.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. in the Pearl City area, according to police documents.

Police said the man and his daughter, who live together, got into an argument that led to the father choking his daughter and restricting her breathing. The daughter called 911 and patrol units arrived, police said.

The man was arrested at the scene at about 10:30 p.m. on suspicion of abuse of a household member.

Armed robber takes man’s property in Ewa

An 18-year-old man reported being robbed in the Ewa area Saturday night, police said.

The victim told police that a man brandished a gun and took property from him at about 11 p.m., according to police documents.

The man fled, and police have not yet located him.

Motorist makes off with tow truck

A 36-year-old man stole a tow truck briefly Saturday afternoon because his car was about to be towed, police said.

According to police documents, a tow truck operator attempted to tow the man’s vehicle, which was parked on private property, in the Waikiki area at about 3:15 p.m.

The man then harassed the tow truck driver and entered the unattended truck, driving it across the street, police said. He was arrested at about 3:45 p.m. on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle.
