Man arrested in alleged attack on police
A 58-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly throwing an "edged weapon" at a Hawaii County police officer responding to the report of a disturbance in Keaau, police said.
At 4:42 p.m. Thursday, police went to a home off Aulii Street and encountered a man brandishing two edged weapons, police said. After police gave orders to drop the weapons, the man allegedly threw one of them at one of the officers, who avoided being struck.
The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, resisting arrest, second-degree assault and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released to the custody of police.
Suspect in gas station robbery sought
CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in identifying an armed-robbery suspect.
The man robbed the Tesoro gas station at 94-1082 Ka Uka Blvd. in Waipio at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. The man, believed to be in his 20s, is about 5 feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing dark shorts and a gray hat with the word "cult" embroidered on the front.
