Packages of raw, frozen marinated May’s Hawaii chicken products that may not have been stored at the proper temperature are being recalled, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Friday.
Ten-pound cardboard boxes, containing four sealed packages of May’s Hawaii "Hawaiian Style, Boneless and Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs," are part of the recall.
The products were produced on Oct. 15 and Nov. 5 and distributed on Oahu, Maui and Kauai as well as to a military commissary.
The packages bear the establishment number "EST. P-11077" in the USDA mark of inspection.
The recall was prompted during shipment when a distributor of the product found boxes that were swollen from built-up gases inside bags of chicken, an indication that they may have been exposed to improper temperatures during storage prior to distribution.
The Department of Agriculture and Palama Holdings, which recalled the product, said there had been no reports of illness from eating suspect chicken, but anyone with concerns should contact a health care provider.
The recall amounted to about 3,600 pounds of chicken.
Consumers with questions about the recall may contact Gary Hanagami, May’s Hawaii vice president of retail sales, at 682-8300.
