Warning signs went up at Waikiki Beach today after swarms of box jellyfish came ashore.

Volunteers this morning collected close to 1,000 box jellyfish from Oahu’s south shore beaches.

Although there have only been a few stings reported so far, lifeguards have posted jellyfish warning signs on beaches along Waikiki and at Ala Moana, according to an Ocean Safety spokesperson.

A dozen box jellyfish were also collected from Leeward Coast beaches.
