Maui firefighters rescued an injured hiker in the Makawao Forest Resever Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for the department said two bikers on the trail found a 51-year-old man from Colorado had injured his left leg while running on the trail.

One biker stayed with the man, while the other went for help at about 3:23 p.m. and met firefighters at the trailhead.

Firefighters and medics arrived on scene and, guided by the biker, hiked about a mile in to reach the victim at about 4:18 p.m.

The patient was stabilized and carried out to an ambulance, which took him to a hospital at 5:25 p.m.
