Waves knock trio into rocky lagoon
A male tourist and two boys who live in Hawaii were injured Tuesday afternoon when waves knocked them into a rocky lagoon area at Sharks Cove, according to a spokeswoman for the city Emergency Services Department.
City Ocean Safety and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the 4 p.m. incident, and paramedics transported the three to a trauma center.
A 45-year-old man was in serious condition after sustaining cuts and abrasions to the head and back. Both boys, ages 10 and 8, were in stable condition. The older boy sustained cuts to his head, back and arms, and the younger boy had cuts on his forehead and legs.
Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright said the three are related. They were standing on a rocky ledge when the waves washed over them, sending the man and boys into a rocky lagoon area, Enright said in an email. Bystanders helped all three out of the water.
3 arrested in recovery of stolen rental car
A rental car reported stolen two weeks ago turned up in Waianae on Monday, police said.
Police arrested a 38-year-old Kapolei man just after 7 a.m. on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, according to police records. His two passengers, a 32-year-old Waianae man and a 36-year-old homeless man, were arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
A patrol officer spotted the rental car in front of 87-110 Nanaikeola St. in Waianae and stopped the driver for an alleged traffic violation, police said.
A 27-year-old man reported the vehicle stolen on Dec. 18.
Pair held in fraudulent use of credit cards
Two men worked together Monday morning to purchase items at a Kalihi retail store with stolen credit cards, police said.
Police arrested the men, ages 59 and 36, at about 1 p.m., about two hours after the incident, on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to police records. The cards belonged to a 76-year-old man and a 57-year-old man, police said.
Also on Monday a 33-year-old man allegedly tried to use a forged check at a Waianae financial institution at about 12:45 p.m., according to police records. Police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree forgery about an hour later.
Sex assault lands Waipahu man in jail
An 18-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted Monday evening by a 27-year-old Waipahu man, police said.
The incident occurred between 4:30 and 5 p.m. in the Pearl City area, police said.
Police arrested the man at his Waipahu home at about 8:45 p.m. on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping, according to police records.
Robbery in Kaimuki park nets 2 arrests
Police arrested two teens in Kapahulu for allegedly robbing a 24-year-old man Tuesday afternoon at a public park in Kaimuki.
Police said a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman allegedly confronted the man at 5 p.m. and demanded his belongings. When he refused, the boy used physical force to remove items from the man’s pockets. The woman then grabbed the man’s belongings, and the teens fled on foot.
Police found the teens and arrested them at 6:50 p.m. on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
