Hawaii swimmers fall to Purdue
The Hawaii men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both fell to Purdue in their first dual meets of the new year on Saturday.
The UH men lost 119-98 and the women were on the short end of a 133-85 score at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Eduardo Guimaraes won the men’s 200 freestyle in 1:40.54, edging teammate Kacy Johnson (1:40.90). Alistair Maclean (200 back) and Victor Goicoechea (500 free) also won their individual events, and the Rainbow Warriors took first in the 400 free relay in 3:05.32.
On the women’s side, Jasmine Alkhaldi took second in the 100 and 200 free and Sofia Mustelin placed second in the 50 free.
Amund Gismervik won the men’s 3-meter diving event and finished second in the 1-meter. Aimee Harrison took first in the women’s 3-meter, with teammate Lauren Hall taking second in both the 3-meter and 1-meter events.
Academy of Art holds off Hawaii Pacific
Academy of Art edged Hawaii Pacific 75-72 on Saturday in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game at Blaisdell Arena.
Morganne Comstock scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors (7-3, 3-1). Skye Savini and Laken McClelland each added 13 points for HPU.
Alisa Griggs had 14 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Urban Knights (8-5, 5-0), who forced 29 turnovers in the win.
» Kaylah Miller scored 15 points to help the Dixie State women beat host Chaminade 93-69. Taylor Mann added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Dixie State (5-6, 3-2). Kristle Henry had a season-high 15 points, Glacen Florita scored 13 and Kennedi Akana added 11 for Chaminade (1-8, 1-2).
» Kamie Imai scored 19 points to lead the host Hawaii Hilo women to a 83-64 win over Dominican (Calif.). Kirstie Williams scored 18 points and Jordan Kealoha added 11 for Hilo (4-6, 3-3). Noelle Roldan scored 14 points for Dominican (0-12, 0-6).
» Justin Long scored 17 points to help the Hawaii Pacific men beat Academy of Art 61-45 at Blaisdell Arena. Malte Ziegenhagen and Darry Jones Jr. scored 10 points each for HPU (8-2, 3-1). Alexis Moore scored 15 points and Alex Carmon scored 10 for Academy of Art (3-9, 1-4).
» DeQuan Thompson hit the go-ahead basket with a minute left as the Dixie State men beat Chaminade 87-86 at McCabe Gym. Thompson scored 25 points, Dalton Groskreutz scored 24, and Zach Robbins had 16 for Dixie State (11-0, 5-0), ranked seventh in Division II. Chaminade had the ball with six seconds left, but turned it over with a second left. Lee Bailey scored 27 points, Christophe Varidel added 19 and Kuany Kuany had 18 for Chaminade (5-6, 2-1).
» Connor Haysbert scored 17 points to help the Dominican men hold off host Hawaii Hilo 56-50. Devin Golston had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Dominican (11-3, 5-1). Brandon Thomas led Hilo (3-9, 0-6) with 11 points.
