Fire burns Maui home for a second time
Police and Maui fire investigators are looking into what caused two fires to break out a home in Paukakao that first caught fire Friday night.
The second fire broke out at 1:44 p.m. Monday at a home at 590 Kailana Place. When firefighters from Kahului, Wailuku and Kihei arrived on scene, about 25 percent of the second floor in the back of the 2-story residence was on fire.
Firefighters contained the fire and brought it under control at 1:58 p.m.
Six people lived at the home. They were staying with relatives after Friday’s fire.
That fire broke out at about 8:37 p.m. Crews from Wailuku and Kahului responded, arriving at 8:46 p.m., and found a two-story house about 25 percent consumed by flames on the second floor.
A resident woke up her husband who was sleeping in the home when the fire broke out, and they escaped without injury.
Firefighters extinguished the fire at 9:29 p.m.
No damage estimate or cause was immediately available.
