Big Isle woman killed in crash is identified

Hawaii County police have identified the 53-year-old Keeau woman who died Saturday in a head-on collision as Anh Kim Tran.

The traffic accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Route 130, south of the Route 139 intersection in Keaau.

Police said Tran was driving a 2001 Mercury sedan and traveling north on Route 130 when she crossed the center median and collided with a 1999 Mercedes-Benz traveling south. She was taken to Hilo Medical Center where she died.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 56-year-old woman from Keaau, and her 23-year-old daughter also were taken to Hilo Medical Center.

Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the accident, police said, adding that a negligent-homicide investigation has been initiated.
