The victim of a fatal accident in Kahaluu Wednesday night has been identified.

Rachelle Ching, 51, of Kaneohe, was a passenger in the rear seat of a car that struck a tree at the intersection of Ahuimanu Road and Ahuimanu Place at about 6:30 p.m., police said.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was seriously injured. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Center.

Ching was transported in extremely critical condition to Queen’s, where she died.

Police Lt. Robert Towne said it appeared the couple lived in the car, a 1995 Toyota station wagon, which also had yard-cleaning equipment and roosters.

Towne said the driver may have been distracted or was under the influence of an intoxicant.
