A new mobile application lets users search data for information about registered sex offenders in Hawaii.

The app released earlier this week allows users to search Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center’s database for names and information of covered offenders registered in the state. The app can locate residence and business addresses.

Users can also conduct searches around particular streets and have the results displayed on a map.

State Attorney General David Louie explains that "covered" offenders include those who use physical violence, prey on children and are repeat offenders. He says Hawaii Sex Offender Search will help the public access information about the presence of sex offenders in their communities.

The free mobile application can be downloaded for Apple and Android devices.
