Firefighters mop up after 150-acre brush fire on Big Isle

Twenty-two Department of Land and Natural Resources and Hawaii County firefighters today continued mop-up operations on a 150-acre brush fire in a remote area of the Big Island’s Puu Waawaa forest reserve.

The brush fire is thought to have been started by lightning Sunday night, the state land department reported.

Seventeen Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel worked to build a fire line around the perimeter of the fire near upper Mamalahoa Highway on Monday.
