The sentencing of retired car dealer James Pflueger has been delayed until April for medical reasons, the Garden Island reported today.

Pflueger was scheduled to be appear in Kauai’s Circuit Court Jan. 23 after pleading no contest in July to first-degree reckless endangerment in the 2006 Ka Loko dam case.

Pflueger was charged with tampering with a spillway around a dam on his Kauai property.

The Kilauea dam breached in March 2006, releasing water that killed seven people.

In July, Pflueger’s company, Pacific 808 Properties, formerly known as Pflueger Properties, entered no contest pleas to manslaughter.

The plea deal asks the court to assess a $50,000 fine for each of the seven victims. The fines would be paid to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources for the purpose of dam safety, the paper said.
