Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck ranks No. 14 at travel site
Props to Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck for being the "Bubba of food trucks," according to BuzzFeed’s travel site (buzzfeed.com/travel). The Kahuku food truck placed No. 14 in its list of 25 best food trucks of 2013, with a score of 8.8 out of 10.
According to the site, eaters should get the lemon butter shrimp, shrimp scampi and spicy shrimp.
The top spot went to The Halal Guys in New York. Their best dish, according to BuzzFeed, is the chicken and gyro over rice "with as much white sauce as is humanly impossible to ingest."
Take it slow at food tour of Honolulu’s Chinatown
Learn about the history, culture and food traditions of Chinatown during a walking tour Sunday led by the folks at Slow Food O’ahu.
Visit open markets, bakeries, a noodle factory, specialty stores and various historic sites. Along the way, snack on area staples such as manapua and exotic fruit.
Tour leaders suggest wearing good walking shoes and bringing sunscreen. The tour runs 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $40, $30 for Slow Food members.

Community dinner offers vegan, gluten-free menu
Enjoy a gourmet dinner that is both vegan and gluten-free, 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 29 at Church of the Crossroads, with a menu that features such dishes as azuki kabocha stew with carrots and onions, rainbow sauerkraut and furofuki daikon with kombu and miso sauce.
The community dinner also includes brown rice with black soybeans, organic corn and collard greens, a cherry tart and hot tea.
