BYUH women topple Holy Names
Two-sport standout Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo scored 18 points and Brigham Young-Hawaii hit a season-high nine 3-pointers to surprise Holy Names 68-49 on Monday evening in Belmont, Calif.
Talyn Bevell added 15 points, and Danna-Lynn Hopper and Jashan Cui notched 10 each for the Seasiders (2-12, 2-7). BYUH shot 50 percent from the floor.
Britney Machado-Potestio led the Hawks (9-7, 5-5) with 21 points.
» Skye Savini scored 27 points, Morganne Comstock added 12 points and 14 rebounds and Hawaii Pacific won its fourth straight, defeating Notre Dame de Namur 72-59 in Belmont, Calif.
The Sea Warriors (11-4, 7-2) got 16 points off the bench from Veanne Navarro. HPU was 15-for-15 from the line, including hitting all 11 in the second half while pulling away from the Argos (3-11, 2-8).
» Kirstie Williams scored 19 points and McKenzie Mangino added a double-double, but it wasn’t enough as Hawaii Hilo fell to Academy of Art 74-64 in San Francisco.
Mangino finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Vulcans (6-7, 5-4), who lost the game at the free-throw line. Hilo made eight of 13 foul shots, compared to 20-for-29 for the host Urban Knights (11-6, 8-1).
» Freshman forward Lilia Maio scored 16 points but didn’t get much help as Chaminade fell 75-61 to host Fresno Pacific in Fresno, Calif.
The Sunbirds (4-11, 4-5) used a 19-1 run to break a 7-7 tie and pull away from the Silverswords (2-13, 2-7) for good.
Maio, who also had three blocks, was named the conference freshman of the week after helping the Silverswords rally past Brigham Young-Hawaii last week for the program’s first-ever win in Cannon Activities Center.
The Kamehameha product scored 18 points with 10 rebounds against the Seasiders and had 18 points and eight rebounds in a road loss to Holy Names. The win over BYUH marked the first time Chaminade posted more than one victory in a season since the 2006-07 team won six games.

Chaminade wins sixth straight
Lee Bailey scored a game-high 24 points and Kuany Kuany added 19 as Chaminade won its sixth consecutive PacWest men’s basketball game Monday night by pulling away from Fresno Pacific 83-78 in Fresno, Calif.
Bailey’s jumper with 70 seconds remaining gave the Silverswords (11-6, 8-1) some breathing room at 80-76. He added two insurance free throws with 18 seconds remaining, finishing 9-for-10 from the line.
Malcolm Griffin led the Sunbirds (5-12, 0-9) with 20 points and Trevon Clayton added 19.
» Pablo Coro came off the bench for a game-high 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and Brigham Young-Hawaii outscored Holy Names 13-1 in overtime to pull out an 89-77 victory in Oakland, Calif.
Scott Friel added 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Sea Warriors. The Hawks (4-15, 3-8) were led by Harold Perry’s 24 points.
» James Northup scored 18 points and Notre Dame de Namur pulled away from Hawaii Pacific for a 71-66 victory in Belmont, Calif.
Simon Enciso and Johnny Hutton each added 16 for the Argos (5-11, 4-6).
The Sea Warriors (11-3, 5-3) got a team-high 16 points from Farbod Farman off the bench.
» In San Francisco, Aaron Anderson scored 22 points and Academy of Art beat Hawaii Hilo 75-63.
Aaron Aikman added 21 points for the Urban Knights (5-12, 3-8).
The Vulcans (3-12, 0-9) got 15 points from Joey Rodrigues.
Chang honored at D-II fete
Former Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball player Tsung-Hsine "Jet" Chang was selected to the NCAA Division II 40th anniversary tribute team that was honored during last week’s NCAA Convention in San Diego.
Chang was the 2012 PacWest Player of the Year, a three-time All-PacWest first-team selection and was named the NCAA D-II men’s basketball tournament’s Most Outstanding Player when he led the Seasiders to a national runner-up finish. He scored 43 points by shooting 14-for-17 from the floor in the national semifinal against West Liberty and 35 points in a losing effort against Bellamine in the title game.
Chang is a member of the Chinese Taipei national team and is currently is playing professionally in China. He played for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ summer league team last year but did not make the NBA roster.
Chaminade’s Bailey earns weekly honor
Junior guard Lee Bailey was named the conference player of the week after helping the Silverswords to two victories.
He scored a career-high 32 points in the 105-102 overtime victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in the extra period. Bailey had 28 points, including 10 free throws, in the road win at Holy Names and is averaging 25 points and three 3-pointers in his last four performances.
