Brown water advisory in effect on Maui
Three brown water advisories is in effect on Maui. The affected areas include Kihei, from Kealia Pond to Kamaole Beach Park II; stretches of coastline from Ukumehame to Honolua; and Honokahua Bay, according to a notice issued by the state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch.
The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Turbid water runoff is known to attract sharks due to possible dead animals being washed into the ocean.
