Scam victims can hardly get a break
And the cyber scams just keep on coming.
As holiday shopping ramped up in December, it was revealed that a massive security breach at Target stores had compromised some 40 million credit and debit card accounts and the personal information of 70 million customers. Neiman Marcus also reported getting hit.
Investigators are still working on who was behind these data breaches, but experts think the hackers could be nearly impossible to find.
Meanwhile, Target is offering a year of free credit monitoring and ID theft protection to its breached customers, so started sending out email blasts about the offer. Alas, even that is bringing out scammers anew via fake Target emails phishing for personal information. CNNâMoney has some tips on how to spot a bogus email (http://cnnmon.ie/1mpCqoP).
All this is enough to make one yearn for the good old pre-cyber days.
Who could oppose Senate Bill 2446?
Other proposals at the state Capitol have broad support, but surely Senate Bill 2446 is the frontrunner for Most Likely To Succeed.
It would name a new Kihei, Maui, high school after the late Patsy Mink.
All 25 senators have signed on.
Mink, who died in 2002, had a distinguished career representing Hawaii in the U.S. House, where she was most famous as a champion of equity for women’s sports, under Title IX.
She also was chairwoman of the Honolulu City Council and assistant secretary of state for oceans and international environmental and scientific affairs.
Come on, you 51 members of the state House — let’s make it unanimous.
