ANCHORAGE, Alaska >> Alaska’s unseasonably warm winter continues, breaking records and turning plants green.

The Anchorage Daily News says the temperature hit 62 degrees at Port Alsworth Monday, tying the highest temperature ever recorded in the state in January.

Forecasters say Nome’s high of 51 degrees topped the town’s warmest January with a temperature typical of early June.

Snow in Anchorage continued melting Tuesday as the state’s largest city saw 15 consecutive days with temperatures at 32 degrees or higher.

National Weather Service meteorologist Sam Albanese says Alaska is prone to occasional warm spells in winter. But he says the series of unseasonably warm days rarely last this long.

Albanese says Anchorage temperatures should be cooling down in the next few days. But he expects temperatures to still hover above normal.
