A gift of mythical proportion 

You don’t need me to tell you that Zeus was a player, with charms no goddess or mortal could resist — and all those illegitimate spawn! (I’m talking ’bout you, Hercules.) Get the uncensored story of romance in ancient mythology at a special Valentine’s Day program presented by Hoku­lani Imaginarium at Windward Community College. The "Star-Crossed Lovers" show with Krissie Kellogg is only just a little racier than the PG version delivered during regular programs at the planetarium, but this one-time-only event, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, is restricted to sweethearts age 21 and older because the $15-per-person affair includes a glass of wine and a Valentine’s favor. 3 little words: Give her cookies

Heart-shaped musubi is festive

Is there a better way to say "I love you" than with a Spam musubi? Aloha Plate, the champions from last season’s "Great Food Truck Race" on Food Network, joins with 7-Eleven to present this heart-shaped version ($1.89) specifically for the holiday of love. From Tuesday to Friday, make an early-morning visit to any 7-Eleven store statewide for your best chance at the festive musubi. Take note: Other Aloha Plate Spam dishes sell out early, often before 10 a.m. Those seeking a more elaborate gift can place online orders for Aloha Plate’s "I (heart) HI" T-shirts ($25-$27), in which the heart is the Valentine’s musubi. No pearls, but oyster dish is classic

I love oysters, especially when deep-fried or grilled and served with a touch of shoyu and lemon. But an outing to Bevy at 661 Auahi St. in Kaka­ako has me rethinking my options. For $5 you can get two raw oysters topped with papaya salsa and a touch of mint creme fraiche to tone down the heat. The flavor combination is delish. The oysters were fresh, and the touch of mint cut the fishiness of the mollusk while the papaya offered a touch of sweetness. If you go during happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays, the oysters are just $1 each. Since they are known as an aphrodisiac, you have plenty of time to prepare for Valentine’s Day. — Michelle Ramos

Put a new spin on old-fashioned gift

Flowers and dinner are a classic Valentine’s Day combo, but what about flowers for dinner? ‘Nalo Farms sells edible nasturtiums that would be a romantic and unexpected way to brighten up a salad or top off dessert. The flowers, which have a mild peppery taste, should last two to three days before wilting.
