Autopsies planned for 2 tourists who died in Maui waters
Autopsies are planned to determine the cause of death of two tourists in separate incidents on Maui.
On Wednesday, Joseph Klein, of Alberta, Canada, was found floating face down near the rocky shoreline off the Kaleialoha condominiums on Lower Honoapiilani road in Lahaina at 1:15 p.m.
Maui police said the victim was unconscious, but breathing. He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died.
A 63-year-old Nebraska tourist died while swimming at Launiupoko Park near Lahaina Tuesday.
Maui police said Lloyd Kahlandt, of Tekamah, Neb., was swimming in the ocean 25 feet on the south shore of the park at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday when he went under water, but did not resurface,
Bystanders pulled the victim out of the water and were administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation when firefighters and paramedics arrived. The victim died at the scene.
