Inclement weather forced the closure on Friday of Hanalei School on Kauai, the Department of Education announced on its Twitter feed.

There is also no bus service for students who live in Hanalei, Wainiha and Haaena who attend Kapaa Middle and High School.

Heavy rain and flooding have affected roads on Kauai’s north shore, an area that includes the Kalalau Trail, which was closed on Thursday because of conditions that made the roads into the trailhead nearly impassable.

About 4 inches fell in Wainiha and Hanalei in the 24-hour period ending at 5 a.m. Nearly 2.38 inches fell on Kapahi.

The forecast for Kauai and Oahu called for cloudy skies and showers for the next several days with the possibility of heavy rain on Sunday and on President’s Day.

The forecast for Honolulu called for cloudy skies and a 50 percent chance of rain through Saturday night.

Winds will shift to the southeast on Sunday bringing vog and muggy conditions. Locally heavy rain is possible in the afternoon through Monday.

Conditions are likely to be similar for the start of the Great Aloha Run, unless the rain washes away the vog.

On Oahu, Punaluu stream recorded nearly 3.2 inches of rain by 5 a.m.; Poamoho saw 3.4 inches and 1.2 inches fell in Makaha.
