Woman trying to cross highway is killed after being hit by car
A female pedestrian died after she was hit by a vehicle on Kamehameha Highway early Saturday morning, Honolulu police said.
According to police, the woman was crossing Kamehameha Highway when she was struck by a vehicle driven by an Aiea woman.
The victim, who died at the scene, was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Police closed the eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway between Pali Momi Street and Lipoa Place while Traffic Division officers investigated the scene.
The incident was reported at 4:22 a.m. Roads were reopened at 7:21 a.m.
Police said speed and alcohol were not believed to have contributed to the collision. Rainy conditions may have been a factor.
The incident remains under investigation.
Tourist encounters trouble while snorkeling and later dies
A 65-year-old visitor from Japan died after being pulled from waters near the Kaneohe Sandbar on Saturday.
The man, who was part of an organized snorkeling group, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where he later died.
The incident was reported at 1:59 p.m.
Single-moped crash in Waikiki seriously injures 46-year-old
A 46-year-old man was seriously injured in a single-moped crash in Waikiki on Saturday.
The crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. in the area fronting 2969 Kalakaua Ave.
The man was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local trauma center.
Early-morning traffic accidents close all westbound H-1 lanes
A series of traffic collisions prompted the closure of all Ewa-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway early Saturday morning.
Witnesses said a Honolulu Police Department vehicle was among several vehicles involved in the collisions.
Police closed the freeway between the Nimitz onramp and Airport onramp just after 5:10 a.m.
The freeway was reopened at 6:27 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
The closure resulted in a snarl that backed up westbound traffic to the Punahou area.
