Dietitian touts good of veggies
The Vegetarian Society of Hawaii welcomes dietitian Brenda Davis’ insights on plant-based diets and the prevention of chronic diseases at its monthly meeting, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Beach Park.
Davis, an internationally recognized authority on vegetarian and vegan nutrition, will also speak 7-9 p.m. March 1 at Cameron Center, 95 Mahalani St., in Wailuku on Maui.

Tour examines Chinatown food
Explore Chinatown with the "Slow Food Chinatown Tour" on Sunday to learn about seafood and produce, visit temples and noodle factories, and sample foods such as manapua, crack seed and lumpia.
The tour takes place on foot, so wear comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen, and bring along some water.
The event is held 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the last Sunday of every month through June 29.
Cost is $40. Reservations are required; visit bit.ly/chinatowntour. Meeting location will be provided after payment is received.
Kiwanis selling breakfast plate
The Kiwanis Club of Honolulu is holding its annual breakfast fundraiser, 7 to 10:30 a.m. March 9 at Noelani School cafeteria.
For $6, diners will receive pancakes, Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs, juice, milk and coffee.
