Hawaiian Telcom boosts broadband speed

Internet speeds of up to 500 megabits per second (Mbps) download and 50 Mbps upload have been announced by Hawaiian Telcom, which claims the speeds are significantly higher than others offered locally.

“Hawaiian Telcom’s expansive deployment of fiber optic technology is connecting Hawaii to the world with speeds never before seen in the islands,” said Eric K. Yeaman, Hawaiian Telcom president and CEO, in a statement.

Many Oahu consumers will be able to sign up for broadband speed-tiers of 100, 300, and 500 Mbps beginning Sunday, the company said.

The areas of Oahu covered by the announcement were not named and no sign-up dates were announced for neighbor island consumers.
