GPS cellphone helps firefighters find lost hiker
Hawaii County firefighters rescued a lost hiker with the help of the Fire Department helicopter and the man’s GPS-enabled cell phone.
The 20-year-old man called for help after getting lost in the Piha Forest Reserve near Lapahoehoe at about 11:25 a.m. Thursday.
Firefighters were able to use the man’s GPS on his cell phone to find his location.
The Fire Department helicopter spotted the man from the air and a ground crew hiked in about a mile and guided him out on foot
Firefighters said the man was in good condition and did not need medical attention..
