Fujikawa places 28th in eGolf event
Tadd Fujikawa shot a 223 to place 28th in the eGolf Tour’s Palmetto Hall Championship at Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Saturday. Ethan Tracy, of Columbus, Ohio, won the tournament and a $13,000 first-place check.
With temperatures in the upper 40s on Saturday, Fujikawa struggled with a 78 and finished 7 over. Fujikawa earned $1,150.
UH places 16th in MPSF championships
The University of Hawaii women’s track and field team placed 16th in the final team standings of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships in Seattle on Saturday.
Rachel Toliver set a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet, 6 inches to claim fourth place in the event. Charlinda Ioane placed 10th in the shot put, while Kaleigh Morrison matched her personal best in the high jump by clearing 5-6 to place 10th.
HPU women roll past Hawaii Hilo in hoops
The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team routed host Hawaii Hilo 78-61 on Saturday.
Morganne Comstock led HPU (17-9, 13-7 PacWest) with 20 points, followed by Skye Savini with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Kamie Imai scored 24 points with five assists and eight rebounds to lead the Vulcans (9-15, 8-12 PacWest). Whitney Edens added 14 points.
» Chaminade continued its struggles with a 79-67 loss to Fresno Pacific on Saturday at McCabe Gym. The teams were tied at 34 at halftime, but the Sunbirds pulled away with an 18-point performance by Kristle Henry. Lilia Maio added 15 points and three blocks for FPU.
Brandi Blackwell finished with a team-high 13 points for the Silverswords, followed by Jenay Herring’s 12 points.
» In men’s hoops, Kuany Kuany scored 22 points and Chaminade topped Fresno Pacific 90-78 at McCabe Gym.
» In a men’s game in Hilo, UHH got 27 points from Lucas Swanson and edged Hawaii Pacific 78-76.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps BYUH in softball
The Hawaii Pacific softball team blanked Brigham Young-Hawaii in a doubleheader, 11-0 and 4-0, on Saturday in Laie.
The Sea Warriors jumped to a 10-0 lead in Game 1, with triples by Dorian Acierto and Nicole Vienna.
HPU (3-9, 3-9 PacWest) scored another run in the fifth, when the game was called due to the mercy rule. Chandell Dacosin pitched the shutout.
Kristen Caskey earned the win in the nightcap, while Taylor Alvarez picked up the loss on the mound for BYU-Hawaii (0-7, 0-5 PacWest).
Alvarez led the Seasiders’ offense with two hits in the doubleheader.
Fresno Pacific takes 2 from Hawaii Hilo
Fresno Pacific swept Hawaii Hilo 5-3 and 3-1 in baseball in Fresno, Calif., on Saturday.
In Game 1, the Sunbirds (8-8, 3-4 PacWest) scored two runs in the first inning, but the Vulcans (2-5, 1-2 PacWest) tied it in the top of the third. Michael Tittle scored on a balk in the fourth inning, and FPU drove in two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Hilo pitcher Jordyn Ah Chong took the loss, allowing nine hits in six innings. FPU’s Wilson Ashford pitched a complete game with six strikeouts in the win. Keenan Nishioka led the Vulcans at the plate with a double and a run.
In Game 2, the Sunbirds racked up 10 hits off UHH pitcher Jordan Kurokawa. Jordan Murai scored the Vulcans’ lone run when he stole third base and reached home on a throwing error by the catcher.
Baldemor, Won to speak at QB Club
Vince Baldemor, Hawaii Pacific University’s athletic director, and Keenyn Won, HPU’s acrobatics and tumbling coach, will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club’s luncheon at Maple Garden restaurant Monday.
Baldemor enters his first year at HPU and will oversee 14 intercollegiate sports and campus recreation. He is the former executive director and president of Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the fundraising partner for University of Hawaii athletics.
Baldemor will discuss his challenges as HPU’s athletic director, including updates about the new campus at Aloha Tower.
Won will lead HPU’s inaugural acrobatics and tumbling team this spring. Won, of Kunia, was a four-time all-state first-team cheerleader with Kamehameha, and a student-athlete for the University of Oregon in its inaugural year of acrobatics and tumbling. She also coached at the Universal Cheerleaders Association and won two national titles.
Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and costs $15 per person.
