Firefighters use water cannon to extinguish van fire

Firefighters extinguished a van fire that also damaged a nearby business Tuesday morning in Mapunapuna.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause an early morning fire in Manpunapuna that destroyed a van used by a homeless person and damaged a warehouse that housed an auto repair shop.

Capt. Terry Seelig, the Honolulu Fire Department spokesman, said firefighters extinguished the van fire within two minutes after arriving at the Ahua Street warehouse at 5:05 a.m., by using a water cannon mounted on a truck.

The van fire caused heat damage to the exterior of the warehouse, that houses several businesses including a auto repair business.

Damages were estimated at $10,000 to the warehouse and $500 to the van.

The fire was extinguished at 5:28 a.m.
