The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified  the 73-year-old Waikiki woman who was killed while crossing the street near the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tuesday as Haruko Okabe.

Police said the victim was jaywalking at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a Polynesian Adventure Tours bus, driven by a 45-year-old man, heading Diamond Head on Kalia Road.

Police said the woman sustained massive head injuries and was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where she died.

Okabe was Oahu’s 12th traffic deaths, compared to 15 at this time last year. She was the fourth person age 67 or older — and the fifth pedestrian — to die this year.
