Miller named player of the week
The Western Water Polo Association named UC San Diego goalkeeper Courtney Miller as its player of the week last Thursday.
Miller, a 2012 Punahou alumna, led the Tritons to an upset of Hawaii at the UCI Invitational, finishing with 63 saves in four matches.
Miller notched a career-high 20 saves in a 10-9 sudden-death victory over the Rainbow Wahine. She had 13 saves against both UCLA and Arizona State and closed the tournament with 17 saves against Cal State Northridge.
Last weekend, the 11th-ranked Tritons went 1-1, beating No. 12 Long Beach State and losing to No. 7 UC Irvine.
Miller, who has 166 saves this season, made seven against the 49ers and six against the Anteaters.
She has been named WWPA player of the week three times in less than two years.
Zarka qualifies for nationals
Kenyon College sophomore Maria Zarka, a 2012 Kalaheo alumna, beat 19 other divers on Friday to win the 3-meter dive at the NCAA Division III Regional Championship in Granville, Ohio.
Zarka, the defending national champion, scored 498.05 points and claimed one of the seven spots for nationals. On Saturday, Zarka finished third in the 1-meter dive out of 22 participants with a score of 456.25.
The top six qualifiers were supposed to qualify for the national meet, but the results are still unofficial according to the NCAA.
