Hawaii drops series opener at No. 10 Texas
Jacob Felts singled home the go-ahead run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give No. 10 Texas a 3-2 win over Hawaii in the opener of a four-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas.
Matt Cooper (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up three runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Cooper’s streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run ended at 24 1/3 innings on freshman Andy McGuire’s RBI double in the fourth.
Hawaii took a 2-0 lead in the first on back-to-back RBI singles by Juliene Jones and Jordan Richartz off of Texas starter Parker French, who did not factor into the decision.
The Longhorns improved to 11-3 while the Rainbow Warriors dropped to 6-7.
UH freshman Marcus Doi started for the first time in seven games and went 1-for-4 with a run scored. He has at least one hit in all seven games he’s started for UH.
