3 incumbents re-elected to Kauai utility board

Three incumbents have been re-elected to the board of directors of the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative.

They are Peter Yukimura, who received 3,590 votes, David Iha (3,502) and Teofilo “Phil” Tacbian (2,971), the utility announced Saturday. They will each serve a three-year term ending in March 2017.

Eleven candidates were in the race for the three slots.

The cooperative mailed 25,309 ballots and received 7,227 

between Feb. 7 and March 8, a turnout of 28.5 percent, up from 23 percent in 2013. Votes were counted by the Connecticut-based Merriman River Group, which announced the results Saturday afternoon.

The newly elected board members will be inaugurated at 11 a.m. March 25 in the utility’s main conference room, 4463 Pahee St. in Lihue.

KIUC is a member-owned cooperative serving 30,000 customers on Kauai. It is governed by a nine-member board.
