Have Puna district voters had enough?
So, are we all good now? House Speaker Joe Souki has officially reprimanded state Rep. Faye Hanohano after multiple reports that she treated people beyond rudely when they came before the Ocean, Marine Resources and Hawaiian Affairs Committee that she chairs.
No apology from Hanohano, but Souki said her conduct has improved, so that’s like a "tacit" apology.
Whatever. Aloha means never having to say you’re sorry, right?
Souki also threatened to bounce her from all her committee assignments, if she fails to behave. The session is only halfway through. But really, it’s going to fall to the voters in her Puna district to decide whether she stays or goes. That’s democracy in action.
Better deficient than corrupt, but still
Good news for Brian Minaai! Well, sort of.
The state attorney general this week cleared Minaai, associate vice president of the University of Hawaii, of allegations of "criminal behavior" and "any civil or administrative wrongdoing" in the management of a contract to build a dormitory on the Hilo campus.
At the same time, however, the AG found fault with his "deficient" management. So, not such a rosy review.
On the other hand, Minaai got six months of paid leave while the probe was going on.
Nice work, if you can get it.
