Grand jury indicts driver in 2012 fatal crash in Waialua
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday charging a man with allegedly driving intoxicated and causing a fatal crash in 2012 in Waialua.
Robert Michael Bone was charged with first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree negligent injury in connection with the Oct. 19, 2012 crash.
Kenton Kuwada, 52, of Waialua, died of injuries sustained in the crash and Kuwada’s passenger Janet Kuwada, then 76, was also hurt.
The indictment said Bone caused the death of Kuwada by driving a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Police said Bone, then 42, was driving a blue 2001 Ford Ranger pickup that crossed the centerline of Kaukonahua Road near Farrington Highway and hit Kuwada’s pickup. The crash happened about 10:30 a.m.
Kuwada sustained internal injuries and was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center where he died. Janet Kuwada was also taken to Queen’s in critical condition, but her condition improved.
