Authorities have charged a 53-year-old Kahului man for allegedly assaulting a man who was in bed with his ex-girlfriend at her Kahului home, Maui police said Tuesday.

Police said Lomae Lomae walked into the woman’s home at 1:45 a.m. Friday without her knowledge or permission with a hammer in hand.

Lomae proceeded to her bedroom and found his ex-girlfriend with another man, police said. He then allegedly struck the man in the head with the hammer, police said.

The victim was taken in critical condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

On Tuesday, prosecutors charged Lomae with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $15,000.
