Suspicious package closes Noelani school
Police issued an all-clear Tuesday afternoon after investigating a suspicious package at Noelani Elementary School in Manoa.
The school was closed after reporting the package at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The police bomb squad was dispatched and found nothing of a threatening nature in the package, police said.
At 1:25 p.m. parents were advised to pick up their children at the Manoa Valley District Park pool area. School normally closes at 2:15 p.m.
The early release came one day after school was let out early due to a chemical odor that sickened 10 students at the Woodlawn Drive campus.
Woman hospitalized after being hit by car
A 52-year-old Haiku woman was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition after she was struck by a car Monday night.
Maui police said the accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Kokomo Road north of Nehe Place in Haiku.
The victim was attempting to walk around a utility truck when she was hit by a 2002 Lexus sedan driven by a 65-year-old woman, who was not injured in the accident.
2 arrested in alleged copper theft attempt
Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after they allegedly tried to steal copper wiring in the Nimitz Highway area, police said.
Patrol officers were sent to investigate at about 11:54 p.m. Monday. They saw two men, ages 34 and 36, attempting to take copper wiring from the highway area and arrested them for investigation of second-degree copper theft.
