Waterman’s Series nears finish
Travis Grant and Rachel Bruntsch, winners of their respective stand-up paddleboard divisions in last week’s Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association race, have the Maui Jim Waterman’s Series lead heading into the final OC-1 stage on March 29.
Grant was the overall winner of KIRA’s third event, the NS Air Conditioning & B’s Bar and Grinds North Shore Race from Maunalua Bay to Magic Island. He finished the 11-mile course in 1 hour, 30 minutes and 52 seconds. Kaeo Abbey, second to Grant in the series, finished in 1:35:07. Bruntsch finished the course in 1:47:31, ahead of Rachel Fujita (2:16:10).
The Waterman’s Series has paddlers competing in four disciplines: prone paddleboard, surfski, SUP and OC-1. The series winners will be decided in the March 29 Hawaii State Championship, an OC-1-designated race from Makai Pier to Magic Island.
The KIRA racing season continues with Sunday’s All-State Oahu Championship from Makai Pier to Kaimana Beach.
