PAGEANT HOPEFULS CO-HOST FUNDRAISER
1. 2014 Narcissus Queen Brittany Lee, center, talked with Miss Kahala 2014 Gabriella Sheindlin, left, Narcissus Pageant coordinator Michele Choy, pageant sponsor Leilani Keough and Miss North Shore 2014 Brittany Atiburcio at a fundraiser luncheon for four aspiring titlists March 9 at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Ward Warehouse. Sheindlin, Atiburcio and Miss East Oahu Kelly Simek are competing for the title of Miss Hawaii 2014; the fourth pageant contestant, Miss East Oahu’s Outstanding Teen 2014 Tarah Driver, is going for the title of Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen. Lee, who received her Narcissus tiara and title in January, is looking forward to visiting China and possibly seeing her family’s ancestral village during her reign.

SEDARIS HANGS WITH SOME DEVOTED FANS AT BOOK SIGNING 4. Humorist David Sedaris, third from left, relaxed with Shellee Heen, left, Giavante Douglas and Tracy Thomas, the last three people in line, at the marathon two-hour book-signing reception that followed his show March 10 at the Hawaii Theatre. 3. Melveen Leed enjoyed the luncheon with her husband, Mike Reyes, and then stepped forward to entertain the crowd before dessert was served. Leed opened with a jazz standard, “Summertime,” and then paid homage to Kui Lee with a medley of two Lee classics, “I’ll Remember You” and “She’s Gone Again.” Atiburcio danced hula to Leed’s medley and later danced a second hula, “Papalina Lahilahi,” with Driver, Sheindlin and Simek.
